Drive has produced all manner of animations for the UK Met Office – explainer videos, educational animations, public weather warnings, first responder guides, promotional cartoons, scientific diagrams and brand videos.
In 2024, Drive was commissioned to work with Met Office meteorologists to formulate a ‘What If…’ series, based on popular online search terms for their social channels. The environmentally conscious series would cover interesting and often whimsical hypothetical topics such as ‘what if the Earth spun the other way?’, ‘what if there was no moon?’, ‘what if the oceans lost their salt?’ and ‘what if the Earth had no mountains?’
Although applying real-world science and observations to these scenarios meant some disastrous consequences, the tone was kept engaging, light and playful with some intriguing and whimsical analogies to keep the viewer amused while enlightening them about the potential ramifications of these scenarios.
