True Creative

After reading about the up-coming series two of American crime drama television series ‘True Detective‘, I felt compelled to do some research on the story behind the beautiful, yet disturbingly haunting title sequence to series one. Winner of the 2014 Outstanding Main Title Design Emmy, the sequence’s developing narrative of two internally divided men, themselves double exposed with emotive images of vice, polluted landscapes, and religious symbolism captured me from a story-telling, creative, atmospheric and technical perspective.

Astonishingly, although the title sequence appears very organic, experimental and at times ‘analogue’, the full details of it’s very digital production including 3D process breakdowns, detailed compositing, it’s precise storyboarding and indeed Elastic’s original concept pitch document are readily available online.
